We live with our all selves.

Innerscape VR is a spatial, imaginary, spiritual, and psychological map where memories are represented, associated, and coordinated. This map guides and navigates us to the internal world composed of our memories: a coded, condensed, transformed, and abstract reality. A map is an abstract image to a person who is not able to decode it. However, to a person who can decode it, it is a piece of information, a story, and another reality. Mapping is a tool that helps us understand the world. Making a map is an attempt to interpret the world and establish a new world that we have interpreted.

In this work, viewers walk into the unfolded Innerscape—the drawn memories—to see something they have never seen before. At the same time, they see everything they have ever seen all at once. Their trajectory makes new associations between objects, weaving new memories and stories.

As a link between VR and reality: Map of Innerscape

Innerscape VR은 상상의, 영적인, 정신적인, 공간화된 지도이다.

VR 페인팅으로 구현되고 재현된 작가의 기억들은 가상의 좌표 위에 놓이고 특정 위치를 점유하여 공간화된 지도가 되어 관람객을 작가 내면의 풍경으로 안내한다. 우리의 기억들은 기호화되고 변모된 형태의 현실이다. 그 기호를 해독할 수 없는 사람에겐 기억이란 단지 추상적인 편린들일 뿐이겠지만, 그 기호를 해독할 수 있는 사람에게 기억이란 정보, 이야기, 그리고 다른 형태의 현실이 된다. 세계의 지도를 만든다는 것은 우리가 외부 세계를 나름의 방식대로 이해했다는 뜻이며 그렇기에 지도 자체는 그 ‘이해 했음’의 증거가 된다. 기억의 지도화는 세계를 해석하고자 하는 시도이며, 해석되어 번역된 세계를 확립하려는 시도이다.

이 작업은 극의 형태가 아닌 시에 가깝다. 언어화 하기 어려운 경험들을 기호화하여 표현하였다. ‘그려진’ 가상 현실상의 풍경 위에 선 관람자가 그의 기억과 현실과 미래를 볼 수 있기를 바란다. 가상 현실 내에서 관람자의 동선으로 새롭게 그리는 궤적은 오브젝트들 간의 새로운 관계를 만들며, 관람자 자신만의 기억과 이야기를 만들어낸다.
